I Was Fired While On Disability Leave. Should I Apply for Unemployment?

Blog Details

You cannot receive both disability benefits and unemployment benefits simultaneously in California. To qualify for unemployment, you must certify that you are ready, willing, and able to work. If your doctor has placed you on disability leave and you are still unable to work due to your disability, you likely won't qualify for unemployment benefits until your doctor medically clears you to return to work. Once your disability ends and you are cleared to return to work, you may be eligible to transition to unemployment benefits if you cannot find work.

Also, note that generally, the disability benefit payments are higher than the unemployment benefit payments because the unemployment benefit payments have a limit.
