I Was Terminated. Why Wasn’t I Paid My Sick Time?

Blog Details

Generally, when you are fired, laid off, or resign from your job, you are not entitled to be paid for your sick time. The exception to this is if your employer has Paid Time Off (PTO) and your sick hours are included in the PTO. In that situation, you are entitled to receive payment for all of your earned PTO hours.

You must be paid within 72 hours of termination when you were not provided prior notice of the termination or you did not provide at least a 72-hour notice of your resignation. You must be paid on your last day of work if you were provided 72-hours notice of the termination or you provided at least a 72-hour notice of your resignation.
